Story is the Soul of Culture Part A: Essentials
Tutor: Jim Pollock
You are invited to undertake a journey into story – to uncover the stories in you that tell of your life and its meaning. They can be a scene, a chapter or a book; they can be truth (memoir) or fiction but you must create them. Stories can be powerful or fall flat. There are guidelines for structuring stories so they work. That is what this course is about. It comes in two parts.
Part A: Essentials – the principles of great storytelling are the stuff of this introductory writing course. You will discover the nature of story structure, narrative voice, and how characters change. The focus is on how to write scenes, use dialogue and connect them together so they create meaning – your meaning. We ask everyone to take this course before Part B, regardless of your writing ability or experience. It is not about literacy, but story craft.
Suitable for: All levels
